MY FAVORITE ALBUMS OF THIS YEAR

11.22.2010

If I was still buying and playing vinyl, these are the albums of 2010 that would have the most worn grooves.

(This is off subject here, I know, but it seemed like a fun thing to do while taking a break from editing video.  Hey, it’s my blog.)

1. “Brothers” by The Black Keys. Wow! Two guys never sounded so good, so natural, nor so heavy. Every song is worth your money, but I really like “The Only One” and “Next Girl”.  My album of the year.

2. “Broken Bells” by Broken Bells. The Shins meet Danger Mouse. Some of the tastiest music of the year. If you could only buy one song, make it “The Mall and Misery”.

3. “Forgiveness Rock Record” by Broken Social Scene. This Canadian alternative rock group has made some good albums, but this is their most listenable from beginning to end. If you could only buy one song, make it “Sweetest Kill”.

4. “Teen Dream” by Beach House. In the absence of a new Fleet Foxes album, this will do. If you could only buy one song, make it “Zebra”.

5. “Plastic Beach” by Gorillaz. Not as good as “Demon Days”, but it grows on you. If you could only buy one song, make it “Stylo” or “Some Kind of Nature” featuring Lou Reed.

6. “So Runs the World Away” by Josh Ritter. Josh Ritter is a young folk music talent, who made a truly special, and unique, folk-inspired album. If you could only buy one song, make it “Change of Time”.

7. “Reckless” by The SteelDrivers. Best bluegrass I’ve heard in a long time. New, but old. If you could only buy one song from this Nashville group of veteran musicians, make it either “Can You Run” or “Good Corn Whiskey”

8. “Tranference” by Spoon. More great old-school rock music from this Austin, Tx. band.  Not as good as “Gimme Fiction” though. If you could only buy one song, make it “I Saw the Light”. It’s classic Spoon.

9.  “This is Happening” by LCD Soundsystem. If you like electronic with a twist, you’ll love this album. Get ready to dance. Best song name of the year, “Dance Yrself Clean”. If you could only buy one song, make it “Home” or “I Can Change”.

Enjoy. R
